About Silver Falls

The Ohanapecosh River flows southward from the eastern slopes of Mount Rainier through a deep, heavily forested canyon. In the shadows of the forest, the river plunges ove the rocks into a pool below. Mist blowing from the falls dampens the already moist atmosphere. From the pool the river flows into a cliff-sided gorge about twenty feet wide. The trail comes from the north on the west side of the river and crosses on a footbridge over the gorge. An overlook point sits just west of the top of the waterfall, and another one is opposite it across the pool.

Silver Falls can be reached from a picnic ground just inside the Stevens Canyon Entrance or from the Ohanapecosh Campground. It is about a mile and a half either way.
